| Aug 17, 2010 | Vet was here for dental work. Zola got her teeth floated, and had one wolf tooth, which was removed. Also gave her a red light treatment. |
| Aug 6, 2010 | Vet was out to give EHV-1 vaccination, do Coggins test, examine for a health certificate, and check teeth. Zola needs some minor floating. |
| Aug 5, 2010 | Haven't kept up with this - will do better. Trimmed today, and treated frogs with diluted tea tree oil. (No sign of infection.) As for her diet, she is now only on 1 cup grain in the morning, with 1/2 t. of copper and 1T of flax seed oil. Along with the rest of the horses, she has access to free-choice mineral salt and plain white salt, both of which are loose, not blocks. She also has access to the free-choice kelp. |
| Jul 5, 2010 | Zola split the inside of her right front ankle open last night. Hauled her to Hagyard for treatment. Luckily they were open on the holiday! |
| Apr 27, 2010 | Put bareback pad on her for a minute or so. Not girthed up. She didn't seem to notice! |
| Apr 1, 2010 | Trimmed feet. |
| Feb 12, 2010 | Trimmed feet. |
| Dec 17, 2009 | Trimmed feet. She is really doing well - seems to be growing like a weed. She and Money Talkin are friends, which is cool. |
| Nov 25, 2009 | I returned from two weeks in WA. Zola has been receiving her minerals while I was gone and getting regular handling. Today I measured her, since she seemed taller, and she is now 57.5 inches tall. She's grown a whole inch since the first time she was measured - less than a month ago. That makes her 14 hands 1 1/2 inches. Bettina, a 21 year old TB mare we took in in 2003, has taken Zola under her wing. Bettina is a very unusual horse and I feel will teach Zola well. Bettina did race as a 2 year old, and won one race. When I chased the horses the other day - to get them out to the big pasture, Zola led the herd. I was very happy to see that, as it shows confidence. For information on the herd, . |
| Nov 5, 2009 | Wormed with Equimax. Since her worm load was so heavy I felt she should be wormed with a truly comprehensive wormer. Also measured her - since she seems bigger, and it appears she's already grown 1/4". |
| Oct 29, 2009 | The filly has a name! The Jockey Club accepted the first name submitted, which is JUST LIKE ZOLA. The name was chosen after the suggestion she be named Zola, after track and field star Zola Budd, who always trained and ran barefoot. (The name Zola was taken.) |
| Oct 26, 2009 | Now on full recommended amount of dolomite, dopper, and sulfur, along with vinegar. (Daily: 2T dolomite, 1T sulfur, 1t copper, 1t raw organic vinegar). Measured filly - she stands at 56.5 inches or 14 hands 1/2 inch. |
| Oct 25, 2009 | Integrated into the whole herd. |
| Oct 22, 2009 | Wormed with Pyrantel Pamoate (Prior to worming 2 types of worms were visible to the naked eye in her manure.) Trimmed feet. Started on grain with addition of 1 T dolomite, 1 1/2 t sulfur, 1/2 t. copper sulfate (See Pat Coleby's book "Natural Horse Care" for more information.) This is not the recommended dose, but the flavor is bitter so we're building up to full dose.) |
| Oct 21, 2009 | Brought filly home. |
