We have purchased the older horse we were looking at!
We were lucky enough to get the horse we wanted! I found him at Suffolk Downs, in East Boston, Massachusetts. Just by a fluke. He is a son of Aptitude out of Funder Powers, by Broad Brush. His name is Money Talkin and he’s pretty much exactly what I was looking for, in that he is certainly bred to run – both Aptitude and Broad Brush were second in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, and Aptitude was also second in the Belmont Stakes. Both were winners of mulitple Grade I stakes races and earned $1.9 million and $2.6 million respectively. Not only is he bred to run, he did win at allowance level when he was young, and won on the turf as well as the dirt. He has been running poorly the last 2 years (or more) but is sound. So we’ll see. It’s put up or shut up time.
He is still at Suffolk Downs and we’re in the process of getting him shipped home. Can hardly wait!

We think we’ve found our older horse!
Don’t want to jinx ourselves, but we’ve found what appears to be a perfect candidate for the experiment. Will post more info as it becomes available.
We’re still looking for an older horse
I’ve changed the ad and plan to put one up at Turfway next week, as well as at Keeneland. Can’t hurt to try.
We have a horse!
It’s not the way I planned, but on October 21, 2009 I purchased a yearling filly. She is by Eavesdropper out of Sea Art. Eavesdropper is a stakes winning son of Kingmambo (by Mr. Prospector), out of Secretariat mare Weekend Surprise – herself a stakes winner of over $400,000. Weekend Surprise is also the dam of A.P. Indy and Summer Squall. A.P. Indy earned just under $3 million and Summer Squall just under $2 million.
Sea Art is a graded stakes winning mare – and earned over $84,000 as a 2 year old. Her sire, Journey at Sea (foaled in 1979) earned over $560,000 and was sired by Crozier. Crozier was a major stakes winner in the early 60′s and earned over $641,000.
Interestingly, the filly’s sire and dam share NO relations within 4 generations. This amounts to almost complete outcross.
Photos coming soon.
The ad is out!
I’ve created an ad, and posted it at the Thoroughbred Center in Lexington on Friday, September 11. Am going to post it other places as well this week. Hopefully, I’ll get some responses.
